Visitors to this site, please note that www.ontheshortwaves.com will be closing down on or about November 15, 2024. ontheshortwaves.com came to life in September 1999 as a companion project to the print volume, “On the Shortwaves, 1923-1945: Broadcast Listening in the Pioneer Days of Radio,” published by McFarland & Co., Inc. The site took on a life of its own, and has been active for all the years since. We hope you have enjoyed this walk through shortwave broadcasting’s past, and we thank all who have supported us over the years. (Our content will still be in the Wayback Machine.)

For those seeking more on SWBC history, McFarland published three more volumes on the topic (see our homepage).  All four books are still available in print and ebook format (search “short wave” on the McFarland website).
